About the book: Your FREE GIFT WITH PURCHASE doesn't always come from the department store makeup counter!

Emma and Laura are about as different as two sisters can be. Emma's always been the party girl, Laura, the hardworking doctor. But now, the two have something in common. Both are newly single and trying out the dating scene after marriage.

Emma's a widow and a single mother with a guilty secret she can't let go. Laura's husband just dumped her for one of four women he's been sleeping with. A dispute over the house forces Laura to move in with her sister and that's when the fun begins.

Go on some dates with these 42 and 44 year-old adorable sisters who are both looking for love and your jaw will surely drop! Laura's mixed bag includes Dan, a selfish womanizer, Ari, a stalker, and Tim, a compulsive liar. For Emma there's gorgeous, sexy Preston, a self-proclaiming "fun guy," beautiful Alice, who's a lesbian, and a string of Matts who go from bad to worse. Then there's separated, charismatic, wealthy Luke Sullivan. Luke's carrying some baggage, but he makes Emma's heart stop every time he appears.

Free Gift With Purchase is a book about two sisters who have always seen things from an entirely different perspective, but who as women in need of each other learn to consider that instead of judging, looking through each other's eyes might make their lives a lot richer. In other words, when you buy into opening your heart and believing in yourself, you might just end up with a Free Gift With Purchase.

My Review

Well Pilossoph did it again.  She has masterfully written another novel that is thought provoking, humorous and inspiring. Pilossoph tackles difficult subjects such as; death, marital discord, adultery, dating and family relationships with humor and truth.  I have a sister myself and absolutely loved Emma and Laura's relationship.  Both are so very different, but love each other deeply.  Both of the ladies came through life on a different paths with different views , but both end up single, forced into the world of dating.  I loved "going" on the dates with the ladies and witnessing all the shenanigans.  From Emma and her sexy Preston to Laura and the stalker Ari.  All of the dates were such a treat.  My free gift with purchase was being part of Emma and Laura's lives for a bit and watching them get a second chance at love and living.

Rating 4.5 stars

Let’s Talk About Sex Baby!
Guest Post by Jackie Pilossoph

In Free Gift With Purchase, the two sisters, Emma and Laura are extreme opposites, and one of the many differences they have is their view on sex.  According to Emma, a fun-loving, free-spirited party girl, Laura should have been born in the 50’s because of her old-fashioned, conservative views on casual sex. Laura got married young, and in Emma’s opinion, her sister has never experienced great sex (which Laura later realizes about herself.)

Their mother, Helene is somewhere in the middle of the two girls: she also married young, her only lover being her husband of 40 some years. That said, Helene understands how the world has changed, and is open minded about women’s wants and needs when it comes to dating, sex and relationships.

Since all three women are thrown into the dating scene after years and years of monogamy, sex talk suddenly becomes theirs semi-typical topic of daily conversation, perhaps for the first time in their lives. In other words, having sex is now perpetuating talking about it, which is something the women never did with each other before. And that leads to lots of disagreements and arguments, but revelations, lots of laughs and juicy stuff, too!

When I was growing up, no one in my house talked about sex. I never had “the talk” with either one of my parents, my older sister never talked to me about it, I definitely never discussed sex with my older brother, and my younger sister was too young to talk about it.

So, I got my information about sex from friends, and it wasn’t until much later in life (through my amazing therapist) that I learned something really important: my family NOT talking about sex made me think subconsciously that sex was bad. Because, to quote her, “Whenever something—anything—isn’t discussed, a person grows up thinking that it’s a bad thing.”

I now have two children and I have to say, I have every intention of talking about sex with them. Now, I’m not saying I’m going to constantly bring it up, but I’m certainly going to tell them they can come to me and tell me or ask me anything they want, and I won’t judge them, I won’t get angry, I won’t tell them what to do, I will just listen and offer advice if they ask for it.

One thing I plan to push on them big time are two messages, and I truly believe every parent, even if they feel uncomfortable about talking about sex with their kids, should drive these messages home.

1.       DO not have sex without a condom. Here’s the bottom line. All of our kids are going to have sex. They are seeing it on TV, in movies, in commercials, online. It’s everywhere and there’s no getting around it. But there’s sex and there’s SAFE sex. We need to protect our children from STD’s and getting pregnant (or getting a girl pregnant) at a young age.
2.       DO not get into a car with someone who’s been drinking: This is what I will drill into my kids’ heads: If you call me at 2:30 a.m. and tell me you are drunk and you need to be picked up, I will not get angry, I won’t be thrilled, but I will be proud of you that you had the guts and the sense to do that instead of getting in the car with a drunk friend to try to avoid being punished.

Those two things are the biggies for me. I’m not condoning that a 16 year old should sleep around just because she’s using condoms. But, kids are going to do what they’re going to do. We can try to talk to them and get them to use good judgment in certain situations, but a lot of this stuff is out of our control.
I want to end this on a light, fun note, so I will talk about how much fun it is to occasionally engage in chit chat with your b.f.f.s about sex!

“The best part about having sex is talking about it with your girlfriends,” says Maggie (played by Cameron Diaz) to her grandmother (played by Shirley McClain) in the hilariously funny and heartwarming movie In Her Shoes (based on the novel by Jennifer Weiner.)

A group of women sitting around drinking wine and talking about sex is probably about as entertaining as it gets! You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve heard come out of women’s mouths! It’s utterly hilarious.

I remember when texting first came out (about 5 years ago) and a friend of mine was texting her husband dirty texts from the bar and showing all of us!
Then there was this woman who after a few drinks got this desire to demonstrate a good hand job. She used a nearby banana. LOL!

The thing is, if you’re in a serious relationship, it’s probably best to keep the details of your sex life to yourself. After all, if you end up marrying the guy, do you want all of your bridesmaids to be standing up there at the altar with smirks on their faces because they all know your new husband’s favorite sexual positions?

But, if you talk in general terms, and you are discussing sex just to get a few good laughs, I think it’s harmless and really fun.

Read Free Gift With Purchase and you’ll feel like you’re having a glass of wine with Emma and Laura, listening to their sex lives!
